Welcome to the Generative Design in Minecraft Competition Wiki! ! Here you will find information about the competition, framework, examples and explanations, and various research projects (ongoing and otherwise).

Do you like playing Minecraft? Do you like procedural content generation, or was ever interested in trying it out? Have you ever looked at a village in Minecraft and thought, "I bet I could write something that does that better." Well, now is your chance to prove it!

The settlement generation competition was started in 2018, with the first iteration taking place at the Foundations of Digital Games (FDG) Conference in Malmö, Sweden. Using judges from a large variety of specialities, the results of this first competition showed a lot of promise in the area of computational creativity in Minecraft, specifically in the areas of adaptability, functionality, narrative, and aesthetics. The second iteration of the competition took place in 2019, again at the Foundations of Digital Games conference, this time in San Luis Obispo, California, USA. The results of this second round demonstrated strong overall improvement in every aspect from the previous year. Most all entries were built on technology and ideas explored in the first iteration. All code has been made publicly available to encourage this iterative innovation.
